Shanghai – A Photo Diary

Shanghai was my third and final stop during my trip to China in 2007. It’s the second city in the country after Nanjing that I like more than Beijing. Sure, t’s big, it’s busy, but the atmosphere is completely different. Maybe it’s the amount of Chinese tourists in Beijing that got on my nerve. In Shanghai it all seems more sophisticated.

Shanghai: Photo Diary

A few notable things from Shanghai is that cables are hanging really low.

During the day it looks nice…

… but at night it looks great!

Yangshan Port
Yangshan scenic port is a bit of a random place. When you drive there you first get to the Donghai Bridge – the first sea-crossing bridge in the China. After that you arrive at Yangshan Deep-water Port. If you take the short hike up the hill you get a view over the port and the bridge. As I said, a bit random.

Yu Garden
Yu Garden in the city centre, on the other hand is a very beauty and a very happy place. The area looks stylish and gorgeous and the shopping is great.

Shanghai Zoo
One sight I would really not advice anyone to go to EVER is Shanghai Zoo. I wanted to spot pandas and I have regretted this until today. I didn’t take any pictures of the pandas because they were huddled together in a small cement cage with one bamboo stick. At least a dozen people were touching the glass, pointing at them and taking pictures with the flash. This stressed the animals a lot. Shanghai zoo is a terrible place for animals. Just look at the pictures of the bears. Normally, animals in zoos just do their own thing. Here they were waiting for food that children were throwing down.

(*Shanghai Zoo may have changed in the last eight years, but this one visit was more than enough for me)

Conclusion

I enjoy visiting big metropolitan cities like Shanghai. There’s always something to see and something to do. I wouldn’t mind visiting Shanghai again on a future trip to China.
