Sixaola – A Border Crossing

After our stay in Quepos we wanted to visit Panama. First we traveled back to San José and from San José we took a bus to this cool border crossing.

It was in the middle of a jungle with some old signs indicating that you’re about to exit Costa Rica and enter Panama.

Not to mention the awesome bridge you have to cross on foot to actually enter Panama.

I almost had an issue because I had lost my ticket for the flight from Panama City back to The Netherlands, and this is something you have to show before entering Panama. Otherwise you have to buy an insanely overpriced bus ticket to Costa Rica. I didn’t want to do that so I begged the guys that my ticket was the same as my friend’s ticket (she took better care of hers). I managed to persuade them so finally we entered the country without paying any extra fees.

Another bus, boat and speed boat ride further we would arrive in Paradise number 2: Bocas del Toro more about that in the next article.

  1. I visited Panama after a trip to Costa Rica back in 2014. This remains one of my all time favorite border crossings. Boats, old railroad bridges, the rain forest, what more could you ask for?! I’d actually love to go back her someday. Bocas del Toro was such a fun place.

    1. Ahh, I have such fond memories of Bocas del Toro as well! I’ll definitely return to Panama one day as there is a lot I haven’t seen, but I don’t know if I’d return to Bocas. I’m afraid I’ll ruin my memories 🙂
