Great Barrier Reef

During my visit in Cape Tribulation I also visited Great Barrier Reef. This is probably one of the best experiences of my life. I have snorkeled a couple of times in the Red Sea in Egypt, but nothing beats the amount of colors in Great Barrier Reef. There were not too many fish, but the corals were alive and full of color. They were slowly bobbing along with the streams in the ocean. Fantastic!

We were also lucky enough to see a small reef shark AND we managed to swim along with a sea turtle. Very peacefully the turtle was making his way through the water and we slowly followed behind him. Every 2/3 minutes he would pop his head up to take in some air. I understand why the turtles in Finding Nemo have been depicted as super relaxed, because that’s how they really are.

I was very happy with the Australia Adventure Tours package and this boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef, because first of all it’s not very busy in Cape Tribulation and second of all, our boat did not choose a location close to the beach. We went out two hours by boat and there were no other boats around, so no fear of bumping into people. Our boat carried maybe 25 people, so we had all the space in the ocean for ourselves. It’s a pity I didn’t have my PADI Open Water certificate when I went to Great Barrier Reef, but no worries. I can (and really would) always go back one day.

More words are not required to describe this experience; just take a look at this clear blue water in the middle of the ocean (it’s a pity I didn’t have an underwater camera, you’ll have to do with only the outside pictures)
